Die Schumpeter Gesellschaft lädt gemeinsam mit der Industriellenvereinigung sehr herzlich zur Lecture „EU´s Innovation and Industrial Policy under the New Green Deal: A Critical Assessment of Europe`s Green Industrial Policy“ mit der renommierten Ökonomin Reinhilde Veugelers (KU Leuven) am
Montag, 25. März 2024, ab 17:00 Uhr
in die Räumlichkeiten der
Industriellenvereinigung (Schwarzenbergplatz 4, 1031 Wien)
ein. Reinhilde Veugelers ist Professorin an der KULeuven (BE), Senior Fellow bei Bruegel und Mitglied der Königlich Flämischen Akademie für Wissenschaft sowie der Academia Europeana. Ihre Forschung konzentriert sich auf Industrieökonomie, internationale Wirtschaft und Strategie, Innovation und Wissenschaft.
Zum Vortrag: Länder stehen vor der Herausforderung, die verschiedenen Ziele einer grünen Industriepolitik in Einklang zu bringen, insbesondere wenn diese Ziele einander widersprechen. Dies umfasst die Vereinigung von Dekarbonisierung mit wirtschaftlichem Wachstum, Beschäftigung und globaler Wettbewerbsfähigkeit sowie Resilienz und Versorgungssicherheit. Der Vortrag konzentriert sich auf die Rolle von Innovationen in der Gestaltung einer erfolgreichen grünen Industriepolitik, die diese Ziele effektiv verbindet. Es werden Grundsätze für ein Politikdesign skizziert, die das Innovationssystem lenkt, sowie aktuelle Trends in der sauberen Energieinnovation und -politik in den USA und der EU untersucht.
Im Anschluss an die Lecture findet eine Paneldiskussion statt, mit Mag. Christina Glocknitzer, Siegelmacherin GmBH und Vizepräsidentin der IV Burgenland; Prof. Dr. Christian Helmenstein, IV und Prof. Dr. Karl Aiginger, ehemaliger Direktor des WIFO und Experte für Industriepolitik. Univ.-Prof. Dr. Michael Landesmann wird die Diskussion leiten, gefolgt von einer Frage- und Antwortrunde mit dem Publikum.

Reinhilde Veugelers is a well-known European expert on European industrial and innovation policy, professor of economics at KU Leuven and Senior Fellow at Bruegel. Her main area of work is industrial organisation, international economics and strategy, innovation, and science.
About the Lecture: Countries face the challenge of reconciling the various objectives of a green industrial policy, especially when these objectives conflict with each other. This includes combining decarbonisation with economic growth, employment, and global competitiveness as well as resilience and security of supply. The lecture will focus on the role of innovation in designing a successful green industrial policy that effectively combines these objectives. It will outline principles for policy design that guide the innovation system and examine current trends in clean energy innovation & policy in the US as well as the EU.
The keynote lecture will be followed by a panel discussion held by Mag. Christina Glocknitzer, Seal Maker GmBH and Vice President, IV Burgenland; Prof. Dr. Christian Helmenstein, IV and Prof. Dr. Karl Aiginger, former Director of WIFO and industrial policy expert. Univ.-Prof. Dr. Michael Landesmann will guide the discussion, followed by a Q&A session with the audience.
