"WE"-Book Publication

Judith Kohlenberger is General Secretary of the Schumpeter Society Vienna and works at the Institute for Social Policy at WU Vienna. She conducts research on refugee migration, integration and social participation.

We. A simple word with many meanings attached to it. In this essay of the same name, Judith Kohlenberger addresses the questions this word raises. Who is the we in which context? Which "we" do we choose for ourselves, which one is ascribed to us by origin, profession, status? When does the "we" become a tool of exclusion? And how do we move towards a more inclusive 'we'? This insightful essay dispels the assumption that the "we" often invoked and instrumentalised by politics is self-evident and fixed.

Rather, it is fleeting, elusive, shifting - and a constant dispute that must be endured. Judith Kohlenberger pleads in clear words and with delicacy for a strong, daring "we" that does not shy away from growing pains, that understands differences as an opportunity for further development and genuine participation.
