On 4th of November 2019, the Schumpeter Society Vienna organised an academic colloquium in honour of its long-standing President, former Federal Chancellor Dr. Franz Vranitzky, on the premises of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB) with the title: "Centrifugal Forces in the European Union and What To Do About It". During the colloquium, renowned international academics dealt with the European integration process and the forces that counteract it. Robert Holzmann (Governor, OeNB) and Ewald Nowotny (President, Schumpeter Society) welcomed the participants. The keynote address entitled "Centrifugal Forces in the Eurozone" was given by Barry Eichengreen (University of Berkeley).
Annamaria Simonazzi (University of La Sapienza, Rome), Istvan Toth (Tarki Social Research Institute, Budapest), Anton Pelinka (Leopold-Franzens University Innsbruck and Central European University) and Richard Grieveson (Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies, wiiw) discussed the topic. Chair of the discussion: Michael Landesmann (Co-Chair, Schumpeter Society).
With this colloquium, the Schumpeter Society, in accordance with its objectives, contributes to the discourse on economic policy in Austria and internationally in the spirit of Schumpeter.
